Applying to University
An important aspect of the guidance we provide in sixth form is the support we offer students in the preparation of their application to University. We have a detailed support programme that offers clear guidance on the practical elements of applying to university including advice on choosing an appropriate course; selecting a university; writing personal statements; and preparing for a successful interview.
We also provide a comprehensive programme of additional support sessions that provide students with specific advice on how to successfully apply to competitive courses and universities, on how to gain vital work experience and planning for entrance examinations and tests. These provide our students with the competitive edge when applying and help to maintain our excellent record of ensuring EWS students are able to take that next step in realising their ambitions in life. This programme includes sessions focussing on:
- Oxbridge applications including preparation for Oxford entrance exams
- Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary applications
- UKCAT and BMAT preparation
- Law applications including LNAT
- Interview preparation including sessions from Oxford and UCL admissions tutors
- Visits to University open days including Oxford and Cambridge
- Other vocational applications including teaching an nursing
We also ensure that girls are aware of the range of opportunities offered by the Universities and encourage them to enrol on masterclasses, taster courses and summer schools.
Last Autumn 132 girls accepted places at university in a wide range of courses including Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and over 15 students studying pharmacy at a range of universities. Other courses of note include Aerospace Engineering at Queen Mary, Geophysics at Leeds, Creative Writing at Bath Spa, Neurosciences at Kings College and Psychology at Royal Holloway. The application process to date this year has been going well with many of our students already having been made good offers including two of our students holding offers to study at Cambridge University and one for Medicine at Kings College University of London.
