Science

The  Science department  consists  of  12  science  laboratories  which  have interactive white boards. A trolley of laptops and data-logging equipment is available for pupil use. There  are  18  full  time teachers  supported  by  5 outstanding  laboratory technicians. The department is well resourced as a result of the Science College status.

Curriculum
Key stage 3


Pupils  follow  a  home  grown  Science  course  supported  by  worksheets and   text  books broadly following  the  QCDA schemes of work. Each pupil’s progress is recorded on a central record. Each pupil is given their own course book. Students are taught for 3 hours a week in years 7 and 8.

 

Key stage 4


Year 9 and 10 pupils follow AQA Science B course. Year 11 pupils follow the AQA Additional and Additional Applied science courses. There are three groups in each year doing Triple Science Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Each  pupil  has  a course  book, with  each  laboratory  also  having  class  sets  of  other  texts. Pupils are taught in set groups according to exam entry.

 

Post 16


A levels - Modular courses in Biology (EDEXCEL), Chemistry (EDEXCEL) and Physics (AQA) are taught in  the  lower  and  upper  sixth.  We also offer the Applied Science (AQA) course.

 

In addition to the above, we offer GCSE Astronomy as a twilight option for year 9 to 13 pupils. There is a wide variety of trips and enrichment opportunities available to pupils including a STEM Science club and a 'Geek' society.
