We are delighted that EWS has now achieved the gold accreditation for our School Travel Plan (STP). The STP is a practical plan used by schools to manage transport issues. The two main purposes of the plan are to reduce vehicle trips to school by encouraging sustainable travel and therefore using alternative options and to raise awareness about travel issues such as air pollution and road safety.
The Eco Group and the Transport for London Ambassadors (YTAs) have been working hard to achieve this by promoting sustainable travel and by raising awareness of climate issues.
Some of the activities the group was involved in over the last couple of years were
- A Year 7 Activity Day which included a road safety obstacle course run by the YTAs
- a lap challenge around the field
- assemblies in November on safer roads
- walk to school month
- Staff step challenge count
The great news is that our whole school travel surveys have also shown that over the years there has been a 4% shift away from using the car to and from school.
Our pupil survey also shows that 84% of students now travel actively or sustainably and there has been a 4.7% increase in Active Travel.
Our school was also presented in 2025 with an award by TFL for Best Student Achievement in Travel Initiatives and Engagement.
