Zara Wallace in Yr10 wins 1st Place in Jack Petchey Ealing Regional finals

We are thrilled to announce that Zara Wallace, a student from The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls, has emerged as the winner of the Ealing Regional Final in Jack Petchey's Speak Out Challenge. This prestigious competition, the largest public speaking programme in England, is managed by the Speakers Trust and generously supported by the Jack Petchey Foundation.

Zara's winning speech, titled "Being Society's Light," was a powerful and inspiring call to action. It highlighted the importance of communication and the need for greater awareness and understanding of the deaf community.

The Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge is a unique platform that provides free communication skills training to Year 10 students in every state school in London and Essex. Each year, the programme empowers over 30,000 young people, helping them to build confidence, develop skills, and share their stories and ideas. The ultimate goal is to empower not only the participants but also their peers, fostering effective, positive communication for use in education, employability, and social change.

Zara's victory is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and the invaluable skills she has developed through the programme. In her own words, "I'm thrilled that I had the opportunity to spread awareness with my speech about communication and the deaf community. I'm grateful to my parents for their unwavering support."

We are incredibly proud of Zara's achievement and look forward to seeing her continue to use her voice to effect positive change in society. Congratulations, Zara!

We are also thrilled to announce that EWS had a second student represent the school at the Jack Petchey SpeakOut Challenge, Hutoon Adam.

Her eloquent speech titled "Nothing is that important, right?“ was a passionate and effective call to raise awareness amongst her peers that nerves do not need to get the better of one.

Whilst she did not make it into the semi-finals, she was heavily praised on her delivery, emotional hook, impact and eloquence of the speech.

Hutoon should be very proud of herself as we at EWS are so proud of he ability, achievements and tenacity. Well done Hutoon!
