Black Cultural Archives

On the 17th November 2023, a group of KS4 and KS5 students went to Brixton to visit The Black Cultural Archives.  They participated in a workshop about the History of Black Feminism.  Our students read articles and listened to audio recordings from the past about women who participated in the Women's Liberation Movement and The Organisation of Women of Asian and African Descent (OWAAD).  They reflected on the practices surrounding policing, housing, education and health care in the 70s and 80s in London. The students were able to reflect on inequalities that still exist in London today and how they can use the experiences of the women who have gone before them to bring about change.  They were shocked when playing 'Womanopoly' (created by Stella Danzie) to see how men and women can be treated differently in the workplace.
